About reflexology

Reflexology is a safe, non-invasive foot treatment which works to support your physical, mental and emotional well-being. Reflexology is one of the UK’s most popular complementary therapies, however the art of working the feet goes back thousands of years to ancient Egypt, India and China.

Reflexology works on the premise that there are specific points on the feet that correspond to different parts of the body. We all get a little out of balance, due to stress, lifestyle, illness, etc., and these imbalances can be detected in our foot reflexes. By using specific techniques to apply pressure to these reflex points any blockages or imbalances in the corresponding areas of the body are corrected. So for example, working the foot reflex points for the skeletal system is thought to address imbalances in the skeleton itself. Simply put, when our body is in balance its natural ability to heal and repair is promoted, and we function better. With the mind-body connection being so powerful, when our body is working well, our mind is too.

Experiences of reflexology depend upon the individual and can vary from session to session. In the feet you may feel a soothing sensation, a few tender spots, or a sensation of knots being worked out. My clients often report tingling in the body, feelings of warmth and sense of feeling lighter. Everyone says that they feel deeply relaxed and free from stress by the end of their treatment. Because reflexology is a holistic therapy it treats each person as a whole and takes into account your mental, physical and emotional well-being too. As a complementary therapy reflexology works alongside conventional medicine, and things like lifestyle, nutrition and exercise to promote health and wellness.

If you haven't tried reflexology before, you might question whether a foot treatment can really make a difference to your well-being. Many people come back for regular treatments when they experience, for example, better sleep, an improvement in mood, and more energy.

Whether your goal is to reduce tension, improve an aspect of your health, or just take some time out to relax and unwind, the only way to find out if reflexology is for you is to try it!
